Why was the State Championship postponed and why was it awarded to Covey Rise?
These questions many have asked. Here is a brief rundown of events based on documentation and correspondence I have on file.
March 12th, the Officers and 3D were discussing the possibility of postponement due to Governor Edwards Public Health Emergency Declaration of March 11th. Concerns were raised of reduced attendance if the State Shoot was held in May as originally scheduled. March 17th, a concerned sponsor sent COVID safety information to the LSCA. On March 18th a sponsor agreed to redirect expenditures to a rescheduled tournament date if advertising could be stopped in time. March 27th a Zoom meeting was held with all concerned parties. Due to COVID restrictions I (Dan Lavergne) believed the decision was made to reschedule the State Shoot. It was later learned that 3D did not have the same understanding. Note that the first half of May was under the "Stay at Home" guidelines and Phase 1 began May 15th. Efforts were made to set a rescheduled date. 3D informed the Officers they were not interested in hosting the State shoot on a rescheduled date.
Only two bids were submitted for the 2020 State Shoot. 3D and Covey Rise. Covey Rise was approached to take on the State Shoot on a rescheduled date. Covey Rise agreed to take on a smaller version of the State Shoot. Given the circumstances, both 3D and Covey Rise felt they should be eligible to bid on the 2021 State Shoot. Due to the difficulties and challenges of COVID-19, I agreed to sponsor a Board Resolution to allow all Clubs in good standing to bid on the 2021 State Shoot. This means the LSCA would start with a clean slate allowing both 3D and Covey Rise to bid on the 2021 shoot.
2020 has been a very difficult year for the entire country and the world. We have had to make changes never seen in our lifetime. We hopefully will be able to have a 2020 State Shoot and a fresh start in 2021.
Also, please note that the LSCA and 3D are in a dispute over an issue related to the postponed State Shoot. At the request of 3D, discussions concerning this dispute have been terminated.

Let's Face Facts -- COVID messed up 2020
However, lets make 2021 the best year ever for the LSCA!
I am working on our LSCA 2021 Plans and Objectives. Some of my thoughts for 2021 are:
1. Keep producing the Monthly Newsletter.
2. Continue the Membership Drive.
2a. Continue support of new shooters and new Clubs.
3. If the planned NSSF/LSCA First Shot Program is successful expand it to all LSCA Clubs.
3a. Due to the COVID restrictions the pilot First Shot Event has been postponed until restrictions are relaxed.
4. Continue the LSCA support of Sporting Clays fundraisers.
5. Continue to encourage the membership to visit multiple LSCA Clubs.
5a. Perhaps expand the Lagniappe Cup to offer more rewards for participation???
6. Award, manage the 2021 LSCA State Championship.
7. Assist Covey Rise in presenting South Central Regional Championship.
I would like to ask the membership to send me suggestions to improve the LSCA in 2021.
LSCA Board Meeting Scheduled
The next LSCA Board Meeting is scheduled for 4 PM at Covey Rise on Saturday September 12, 2020 (During the LSCA Championship).
Tentative Agenda:
1. Board Resolution to ratify all of the actions in 2020 in response to the Covid Crisis.
2. Approval of 2021 Plans and Objectives.
3. Set the date/location/time for the Board Meeting to select shoot dates for 2021 (this meeting will also award the host Club for the 2021 State Championship).
Final Note
As of the date of this Newsletter, our State, Nation and Municipalities are experiencing a very difficult time trying to control the COVID 19 Pandemic. The LSCA wants to express our heartfelt thanks to the men and women on the front line of our healthcare system. They are battling this Pandemic without adequate supplies and facilities. May God Bless you.
