January Registered Shoots
January 15th & 16th First Greenbacks & Buckle Race - Wilderness Gun Club
January 23rd -- Ed's Sporting Clays Range
January 30th, 3D Shooting Center
The LSCA "Big Shoot of the Month" is the First Greenbacks & Buckle Race (Race #1) at Wilderness Gun Club January 15/16, 2021. This will be the first shoot where you can start accumulating points for $$$$ & trophies. Points will be awarded equal to the number of targets you break (all 12 gauge and small gauge). (All NSCA broken targets counts even ReShoots). Plan to stay late and shoot both days to accumulate points at Wilderness Gun Club on January 15th & 16th. Points will be awarded at all LSCA Big Shoots of the Month and will be accumulated until June 30th where the 14 winners (one winner in each Class and Concurrent) will be announced. This Race is an excellent opportunity for LSCA shooters to visit Clubs around the State while accumulating points towards prizes. Each month a Leader Board will be published in our Newsletter.
2020 Year in Review
The year 2020 was unforgettable. The LSCA started the year with high hopes with an excellent menu of Registered shoots and the highlight being the State Championship. But, by March, COVID-19 appeared and wrecked plans for Registered shoots and the State Championship.
Governor Edwards, in an attempt to stop COVID-19, issued "Stay at Home" orders which destroyed the LSCA schedule. On a national basis all major sporting clays events scheduled for May (the same month as our State Championship) were either cancelled or postponed. The LSCA postponed the May Championship.
Even with the uncertainty of future governmental restrictions, Covey Rise offered to pick up the postponed State Championship. Operating under the COVID-19 golf course protocol, the State Championship was held in September with 170 shooters attending. Chad Johnson is our 2020 State Champion.
The Lagniappe Cup (shotgun give away) was completed with a random draw and Michael Canaday was the recipient.
The LSCA partnered with the NSSF to bring the NSSF "First Shots" program to Louisiana. Again COVID-19 intervened. The State mandatory COVID-19 restrictions caused the program to be postponed. We plan to have the first First Shots event as soon as COVID-19 protocols permit the event.
The LSCA longtime website provider, Scoringpro, stopped providing websites in December 2020. The Board of Directors authorized a replacement website. We were able to retain the lasportingclays.com address. However, it is a work in progress right now -- place holder names/titles are temporary until the final format has been programmed. Please pardon our progress.
We did have good news in 2020.
1. The LSCA Board of Directors authorized the 2021 "Greenbacks and Buckle Race" (Based total targets broken, awards will be given to a person in all Classes and Concurrents - one award per person = 14 awards).
2. NSCA selected Covey Rise for the September 2021 South Central Regional Championship.
3. Covey Rise was selected for the LSCA Championship in May 2021.
4. A robust Registered shoot schedule was adopted by the Board of Directors for 2021.
